CONCEPT Stays

A modern white tiny house made from a nacelle with a rounded shape and wooden door, situated on stone foundation in a mountainous landscape with a lake, grass, rocks, and cloudy sky.

Norway
Distance: ~25km • Difficulty: Challenging

FJORDS STAY - Troms

Begin with a place, not an idea. In Troms, north of Norway, a retired wind turbine nacelle rests as an off grid tiny house among the fjords. The journey shapes the story: arrive by canoe or SUP, tracing light across cold water. What begins as travel becomes practice, packing lighter, moving slower and listening to what nature has to offer.

OUT & ABOUT places cabins where immersion, not convenience, leads; power, heat, and water work with the land so impact stays small. Inside, circular design meets simple comforts: warm bedding, crafted surfaces, windows that frame ridgelines and midnight sun. Outside, trails braid through lichen and stone;

You are off roads, yet held by thoughtful systems that make off grid life feel natural. Let the paddle set your cadence and silence carry it. Here, every night funds stewardship, and every morning returns you to the wild.

Forest Stay - JÄmtland

Start with the forest and let it set the tempo. In Jämtland, Sweden, a retired wind turbine nacelle waits as a quiet tiny house among spruce, pine, and moss. Reaching it is part of the stay. Park at the last gravel road, shoulder your pack, and hike eight kilometres through glacial rock and soft bog.

There is no marked trail. You navigate by map, compass, and attention. The route asks for patience, not hurry. Inside, warmth, water, and light run with the land. Outside, the forest speaks in small details, wind through spruce, water moving somewhere beyond view and tracks fading into the moss. Nothing performs or asks to be noticed, which is exactly why presence returns. These cabins are placed where nature leads and human comfort follows; impact light and intention clear.

This is OUT & ABOUT. Arrive without hurry. Make coffee, open the hatch, and let stillness set the rhythm.
No signal, full connection— just space to be part of the land, not apart from it.

Alpine Stay - Chamonix

ILet the Alps write breath into your ribs first. In Chamonix, France, a nacelle has been rebuilt
by OUT & ABOUT into an off-grid cabin anchored above larch and granite. Getting there is part of the promise.

Strap on snowshoes, shoulder a pack, and hike nine kilometers through winter terrain with twelve hundred meters of ascent. The line is yours. Follow contour, read weather, keep rhythm with your breath.

Inside, heat, water, and light work with the site, paired with circular materials and calm design. Outside, crevasses breathe, ravens loop in wind, and the valley keeps distance. We place stays where effort unlocks quiet and care keeps impact small.

Bring a map, know your limits, travel with respect for nature and time. Arriving feels like a secret kept by nature. Make tea, thaw gloves, watch alpenglow climb the ridge and leave with less noise. Each booking funds stewardship for places that hold us.

Our story

No signal, full connection

It started with a question.

Could freedom in nature be more than an idea? Could we protect the wild while still living close to it?

OUT & ABOUT was founded by Sam de Zeeuw and Rafke van der Laan, two friends with a shared love for the outdoors, design, and raw simplicity. During a camping trip, the spark took shape: to bridge modern travel with respect for nature. Why keep nature at a distance when we can experience it with respect and care?

From that thought came action. We began searching for places where silence still speaks, building cabins that move with the land instead of against it. Each stay reflects what we value most — precision, patience, and the kind of adventure that leaves both traveler and landscape better than before.
